Here at NextGen we are committed to diversifying the creative industries by tapping into talent pools that all too often remain hidden. One of the ways we do this is to partner with The Prince's Trust on courses for young people who may not be in full time education or employment.
We bring industry and young people together on these courses, providing first hand tuition and advice from professionals. Whether that be film makers, game designers, artists or a host of other job roles.
The Get Started with Games programme is a 5 day course and introduces young people to working within a team to create a game and understand the production process, from inception of an idea to release. The course is delivered by industry professionals and not only exposes young people to current working practices but provides valuable information on the opportunities within their local area. So far it has run in in Bristol, Sunderland and London and some of the young people have gone on to study the NextGen college course full time.
Here's a video from our Get Started in Games Design course in Bristol:
Get Started in Film also ran in Bristol and allowed for the creation of short films exploring the students local area.
This specific collaboration was designed to provide young people with industry led experience in exploring filmmaking, storytelling and production skills. Additional support was provided to help them move into further education or employment in film and TV.
