Course leaders Simon Hayter and Diana Hughes, and the team of course tutors, are experienced, passionate and well qualified. Simon holds a BA in Design, Diana holds a BSc in Multimedia Technology and they both hold Master’s Degrees in Digital Moving Image. The college's 3D and Visual Effects team also includes experts with specialist skills, many of whom currently work in the visual effects industry: Sadiqul Alum (BA in Animation); Frank Tan (BA in Computer Visualization); Daniel Roberts (BA in Fine Art and MA in Design Futures); Kofi Ansah (BA Animation and has worked for The Mill, Framestore and Glassworks) and Barry Stead who has been teaching video and 3D for over 10 years. Simon is the pastoral lead for NextGen students. Diana is the curriculum manager and is responsible for organising, scheduling and resourcing everything needed to make sure that the programme is well structured and gives students the skills and knowledge they need, to progress to apprenticeships or higher education in Games, Animation or VFX.

Progression routes

Hackney Community College has strong links with large and small companies in the digital and creative industry, and with specialist university degree programmes. For example, the Animation degree at Ravensbourne is an established progression route for HCC's students.  The college also runs the UK's first degree-level Tech City Apprenticeship in Creative and Digital Media, designed in conjunction with leading Tech City organisations, which is an ideal progression option for many students.

Course Cost

​The NextGen Level 3 Extended Diploma in Games, Animation & VFX Skills is fully funded for 16 - 18 year old students, and for students aged 19-23 who don't already have a full Level 3 qualification.
